Happy Anniversary to the Local Crowd! On August 21st, 2012 Diane Sontum and Kim Vincent set out on a mission to empower entrepreneurship and business startups, and bolster social and financial capital, by creating localized rewards-based crowdfunding for entrepreneurs across the United States.
Over these past 10 years, The Local Crowd (TLC) has continued to focus on non-dilutive funding to bring the TLC platform to fruition. The TLC team has received support from the Wyoming SBIR/STTR program, the Wyoming Business Council, USDA Rural Development, the National Science Foundation, and the SBA-Wyoming Community Navigator Pilot Program. We are grateful for the collaboration of so many dedicated economic and community development organizations that bring our total grant fundraising for TLC capacity building to over $1M.
TLC also celebrates the opportunity to work with multiple communities and campaign creators across the nation: California, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Montana, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Vermont, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. The economic impact of the past decade includes 118 campaigns that have raised more than $1 million in campaigns through the generous support of 8,298 contributors.
The Local Crowd continues to focus on rural and marginalized areas and works with economic development leaders that are passionate about supporting their local businesses and nonprofits by bringing a localized crowdfunding platform into their community. The future vision is the creation of a member-owned national crowdfunding cooperative, which is currently under development.
